23.08.2024 From 1 till 15 August 2024 Tajikistan National Mine Action Center, OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe

From 1 till 15 August 2024, Tajikistan National Mine Action Center with financial support of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe organized two-weeks summer rehabilitation camp for victims of landmines and explosive remnants of war in the recreation zone of the National Bank of Tajikistan situated Guliston city, Sugd region.
In the result 40 landmine/ERW survivors and family members of survivors accompanying them (31 men and 9 women) from remote mine-affected districts received rest and rehabilitation, improved general health and enhanced their knowledges and social-integration skills in Guliston city, Sugd oblast.
Among participants 31 have established degrees of disability (17 survivors - 2 degree of disability, two – 3-d degree and 12 –have 1-st degree of disability). 9 (nine) survivors had severe form of disability and required constant assistance and support from accompanying person.

29.05.2024 Government Institution “Tajikistan National Mine Action Center”

On 21 May 2024, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action was organized and conducted by the Government Institution “Tajikistan National Mine Action Center” at the Central Stadium of Shamsiddin Shohin district, with participation of the heads of development partners and donors, including the US Department of State, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Tajikistan, the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan, the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD),  Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), demining teams of HDC of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan, Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan, the management staff of the state executive authorities of Shamsiddin Shohin district, landmine survivors and more than 800 local residents of the surrounding area.

26.04.2024 On 24 April 2024, Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre organized the Victim Assistance Technical Working Group meeting in Khujand city.

On 24 April 2024, Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre organized the Victim Assistance Technical Working Group meeting in Khujand city. Meeting gathered 31 participants, out of whom 10 were women and 21 - men. Among participants were representatives of the Sugd region and district departments of social protection of population, representatives of the Tajikistan Red Crescent Society (TRCS) branch in Sugd region and landmine survivors and their organization “Society of landmine survivors”. Among discussed topics were following: results of the implementation of the “National Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan on Humanitarian Mine Action for 2021-2030”, Implementation of the Victim Assistance provisions in the “Oslo Action Plan” in 2023, TNMAC’s Annual Work Plan for 2024. Leading specialist of the Sugd region department of social protection, representative of the RCST branch in Sugd region and Head of the survivors’ organization also made presentations related to assistance to survivors and persons with disabilities.

The work in small groups focused on how we could better support the rights of survivors and other persons with disabilities resulted in suggestions for a new VA Action Plan for the next 5 years.

11.03.2024 On 5 March 2024, Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre organized the Victim Assistance Technical Working Group meeting in Bokhtar city.

On 5 March 2024, Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre organized the Victim Assistance Technical Working Group meeting in Bokhtar city. Meeting gathered 30 participants, out of whom 11 were women and 19 - men. Among participants were representatives of the Khatlon regional and district departments of social protection of population, representatives of the Tajikistan Red Crescent Society (TRCS) and landmine survivors and persons with disabilities. The results of the implementation of the “National Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan on Humanitarian Mine Action for 2021-2030”, Implementation of the Victim Assistance provisions in the “Oslo Action Plan” in 2023 and  TNMAC’s Annual Work Plan for 2024 were discussed during meeting.

22.01.2024 Tree planting campaign. (TNMAC)

The tree-planting campaign improving the environment in the city of Dushanbe is expanding every day. This campaign is the continuation of the constructive initiatives of the Founder of National Peace and Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, who focuses not only on green landscaping of our city, but also actively participates in such campaigns. In this regard, upon the initiative of the Director of the Government Institution “Tajikistan National Mine Action Center” (TNMAC), the tree planting and weeding were organized and carried out in the TNMAC Training Center on 20 January 2024. The event brought together the humanitarian demining partners to contribute to this important tree-planting campaign for the better future of the country.

The Tajikistan Mine Action Center coordinates all mine action related projects in the country in order to ensure Tajikistan’s compliance with the requirements under the Ottawa treaty, which was ratified by Tajikistan in 1999. (.....)

The legal framework for the Tajikistan mine action programme rests on the following instruments: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel (AP) Mines and on their Destruction from 18th of September 1997 (the Ottawa Convention) and the Protocols II and V to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (.....)
