Government Institution “Tajikistan National Mine Action Center”

On 21 May 2024, the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action was organized and conducted by the Government Institution “Tajikistan National Mine Action Center” at the Central Stadium of Shamsiddin Shohin district, with participation of the heads of development partners and donors, including the US Department of State, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Tajikistan, the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan, the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD),  Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), demining teams of HDC of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan, Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Guard of the Republic of Tajikistan, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan, the management staff of the state executive authorities of Shamsiddin Shohin district, landmine survivors and more than 800 local residents of the surrounding area.
According to the Resolution of the UN General Assembly, on 8 December, 2005, this day was officially announced as the International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action and is celebrated annually at the international level.  The Republic of Tajikistan has been celebrating this day since 2006. This year, the International Mine Action Day was held under the theme “Protecting Lives, Building Peace” with the aim to prevent explosion accidents and access of local population into hazardous areas contaminated with mines and explosive ordnance.

What is TMAC?

The Tajikistan Mine Action Center coordinates all mine action related projects in the country in order to ensure Tajikistan’s compliance with the requirements under the Ottawa treaty, which was ratified by Tajikistan in 1999. (.....)

What we do?

The legal framework for the Tajikistan mine action programme rests on the following instruments: the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel (AP) Mines and on their Destruction from 18th of September 1997 (the Ottawa Convention) and the Protocols II and V to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (.....)
